Announcing the 2017 ATF Co-Curators

Theatre Network Australia announces that the Co-Curators for the 2017 Australian Theatre Forum, (to be held in the 2017 OzAsia Festival, Adelaide 3-5 October, 2017), are the dynamic duo of Alexis West and Steve Mayhew.  Alexis and Steve will be talking to you over the coming year as they start thinking and planning. Contact TNA to get their contact details, or add your thoughts at the link below.

Alexis West has worked as a dancer, choreographer, performer, writer, theatre-maker and filmmaker over the past 20 years. As a Birri Gubba, Wakka Wakka and Kanak woman, Alexis is passionate about First Nation people’s voices as well as the stories of people with disability and people from diverse backgrounds. She has worked as an artistic director, writer, and facilitator for organisations including the Karrikarrinya Theatre Collective, SA Writers Centre, Spirit Festival, Our Mob, Art Gallery SA, and Adelaide Fringe. Alexis has devised and directed new works for No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability since 2008, and worked as AD, co-writer and performer for State Theatre Company SA.

Steve Mayhew began working as a freelance theatre director in the early 1990s and has had lead managerial roles at Riverland Youth Theatre, Junction Theatre and Brink Productions.  He has been Creative Producer for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Special Events Program Coordinator for the 2006 Adelaide Fringe.  In 2008 he guest curated the Hong Kong Fringe Club’s Australia On Stage program following his Asialink residency.  Steve’s extensive work in regional South Australia includes his role as Creative Producer at Country Arts SA since 2007  – commissioning many new works for touring and festivals across the country. Steve was the Artistic Director of ‘Kumuwuki (Big Wave)’ 2012 National Regional Arts Conference and Festival.  Steve has been involved in the development of new theatre based works as a director, writer, designer, composer, dramaturge and creative producer and has always tended to gravitate towards the edges where multiple art forms, communities and audiences meet, challenging norms and perspectives.

SECTOR INPUT – We are also now seeking input from the sector. If you have ideas for content, structure or personnel for the ATF, please go ahead and add your thoughts here. We will be collecting these as a resource for our planning.
