ANZSCO Review: The new Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA)

On December 6th the ABS published the first edition of the Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA), which is the final outcome of the ANZSCO Review. The review sought to update the list of occupations in Australia and New Zealand. The Australian and New Zealand classifications have now been separated, with OSCA now replacing ANZSCO.

OSCA helps Australia make important decisions about jobs and the workforce. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) uses OSCA to describe different types of jobs in reports like the Census and Labour Force Survey, as well as in data from workplaces. OSCA also helps understand the job market by creating plans to support industries and finding ways to ensure there are enough skilled workers through programs like skilled migration and education.

TNA made submissions to the Round 3 and Round 4 consultations, advocating for a number of changes to reflect the modern performing arts workforce. We are very pleased to see many of our recommendations, made alongside colleagues from Creative Australia, Screen Australia, Live Performance Australia and others have been taken up. These include the following new occupations being added:

🔹 Circus Performer or Trainer
🔹 Audio or Live Performance Director
🔹 Production Manager (Screen or Live Performance)
🔹 Screen or Live Performance Designer
🔹 Live Performance Producer
🔹 Production Coordinator (Audio, Screen or Live Performance)

TNA has created a summary table that outlines the new classification structure for occupations relevant to the performing arts.
