28 July – Directors in TYA International Exchange 2025 – EOIs Now Open!
Directors in Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) – An International Exchange, takes place 22-29 June 2025 at FUNDUS Theatre in Hamburg, Germany. TNA will be selecting one Australian to attend, to be decided through an EOI process. Open to all performing art forms! Last year TNA support dance artist and leader Rita Pryce to attend. EOIs close 28 July.
ASSITEJ World Congress
Sue Giles, TNA board member and President of ASSITEJ International, has been re-elected as President for another three years at the World Congress in Cuba. Other appointments for the Executive Committee were announced. 488 international delegates were in attendance. Read Sue’s bulletin report on the Congress.
6 August – Creative Australia Peer Assessor EOIs
We need more representation from the youth arts and young audiences sector to join Creative Australia’s pool of peer assessors for a three-year term. Peer assessors make funding recommendations, assess grants, and provide expertise. Make sure the sector’s voice is heard, and get some fantastic experience (and pay!) while doing it. Everyone is encouraged to register!
Tax Time! Tips for Indies in the Performing Arts
With end of financial year coming up, The Australian Tax Office has put together a comprehensive guide for individuals in the performing arts. TNA has outlined some of their tips, including the sorts of things that count as a tax-deductible expense.

Stephen Noonan at the ASSITEJ World Congress
Stephen Noonan attended the World Congress in Cuba, with the only Australian performance. Stephen performed ‘the Boy & the Ball’, a theatre performance for audiences aged four. ‘Then, within the first 30 seconds of the performance, when I hear the first collective giggle or collective audible breath intake, my fear disappears.’ Read Stephen’s article on attending the Congress.
Shopfront Scratch Night 2024 EOIs (NSW)
For artists to present and test work to a live audience in August. Hosted by the Young People Advisory Panel. Presentation slots are a maximum of 15 minutes long.
8–12 July – La Mama Free Professional Development Series
In-person and livestreamed sessions for independent theatre practitioners. From the art of stage and production management to how to write a good media release. Speakers include Rachel Maza, Danny Delahunty, Bernadette Fam, Laura Milke Garner, and TNA’s Erica McCalman.
14 July – Carclew Fellowships 2025 (SA)
Up to $10,000 for artists and art workers aged 26 years or under. The grant can go towards research, mentoring, arts career building, and skills development.
23 July – Paul Ramsay Foundation Experimental Evaluation Grants EOIs
Up to $300,000 for organisations to fund evaluations of social impact programs. They must align with PRF’s purpose, which includes children and young people having positive life paths free from entrenched poverty and harm.
Colour Contrast for Digital Accessibility
According to the Accessible Communications Collective, one of the most common accessibility failures is text with low colour contrast. There are two free online colour contrast checkers that will help with this. Image Colour Picker identifies the HEX code of a colour. WebAIM Contrast Checker compares the HEX codes and produces the contrast ratio.
INTERNATIONAL STUFF
10 August – International Theatre Festival for Children and Youth JĖGA/COOL! 2025
Inviting performing arts companies to present in the festival in Lithuania. The festival is on 13–18 May 2025.
ASSITEJ International Leadership Demographics Research
The project wants to provide a snapshot of Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) leadership demographics. For the project, TYA is defined as works with/for/by young people aged 0-18 years. Australia is one of the countries the research is interested in.
