Modern Awards Review: Submissions by TNA

Following the Federal Government’s commitment in REVIVE, the national cultural policy, the Fair Work Commission is undertaking a review of the modern awards, investigating existing award coverage and minimum standards for the arts and culture sector, including potential coverage gaps. Alongside other parties such as Live Performance Australia and MEAA, TNA has been part of the consultation process to represent the national performing arts sector and stay informed on the process of the Review.

TNA made a written submission to the Review in December, responding within a tight timeframe to key questions in the discussion paper, and raising the issue within the online consultation that the Awards are often difficult to interpret and implement by employers in the performing arts.

In January, after a request from the Fair Work Commission and other parties in the consultation, TNA made a submission of additional information. This submission advocated specifically for Producers and Arts Administrators to be more clearly identified within the Live Performance Award’s lists of indicative positions, noting that TNA believes these positions are covered by the Award, but it is often not clear for employers.

TNA took part in the consultations in January. TNA worked with Live Performance Australia to agree on a final set of recommendations for changes to the Live Performance Award to clarify where producers and arts administrators are covered.
