Released on 27 Nov 2024, the Not-for-Profit Sector Development Blueprint was created to address long-standing challenges within the NFP sector and provide a ten-year roadmap for reforms to strengthen its capacity, visibility, and sustainability.

The primary purpose of the Blueprint is to enhance the operational and strategic environment for Australian NFP organisations, enabling them to better serve their communities, advocate for change, and achieve their goals. It outlines a range of foundational, short-term, and long-term initiatives to be implemented collaboratively by governments, the NFP sector, and other stakeholders.

The Blueprint provides NFPs in the performing arts sector with evidence to advocate for their needs, address sector-wide challenges, and secure sustainable futures. Specific areas of relevance include:

• Policy Advocacy: Strengthened rights for NFPs to advocate for the communities they serve.
• Sector Visibility: Efforts to increase public awareness of the value and impact of NFP organisations, including performing arts entities.
• Funding and Procurement Reform: Advocacy for comprehensive funding models that reflect the true costs of operations and include indexation, enabling organisations to deliver high-quality, sustainable programs.
• Collaboration Opportunities: Support for co-design and shared decision-making practices that empower arts organisations to influence government and sector-wide initiatives.
• Leadership Development: Investment in leadership programs to nurture future leaders in the performing arts sector.

The Blueprint includes 18 initiatives grouped under three pillars (see the excepts at the end of this document). The report identifies these initiatives as having the greatest potential immediate and systemic impact for the NFP sector.
