CaPT Consultation, Research & Advocacy

CONSULTATION, RESEARCH & ADVOCACY

TNA is in constant conversation with the Circus & Physical Theatre sector, through direct contact with our members as well as via our national CaPT Advisory Committee. This consultation is vital in shaping our research and advocacy priorities.

SECTOR CONSULTATION

The CaPT team at TNA engage regularly with members of the Circus and Physical theatre sector in order to stay abreast of the current challenges, concerns and opportunities facing our community. We consult informally through one-on-one catch-ups, phone and email chats, attendance at industry events and presence in online spaces. If you'd like to connect with the CaPT team, email steph@tna.org.au.

TNA also has formal mechanisms for connecting with the wider Australian sector, via two sector advisory groups:

TNA's CaPT Advisory Committee
Through TNA’s CaPT Advisory Committee, our CaPT staff maintain strong engagement and information exchange between TNA and the circus and physical theatre sector locally, nationally, and internationally.

Australia Council & Creative Victoria CaPT Advisory Group
TNA attends these bi-monthly meetings as an observer. This group was established by the Australia Council and Creative Victoria to provide expertise and strategic advice to support the development and implementation of the Victorian Circus & Physical Theatre Strategy 2022-24.

ADVOCACY FOR RECOGNITION & CAPT-SPECIFIC NEEDS

We meet regularly with state and federal funding & decision-making bodies to communicate sector needs, challenges and sentiments, and to advocate for the best interests of the sector.

TNA's key advocacy priorities for the CaPT sector currently include:

  •   Reopening of the Collingwood circus building to the Victorian CaPT sector as soon as possible.
  •   Recognition of Circus & Physical Theatre as a unique artform by funders.
  •   Increased representation of CaPT practitioners on assessment panels.

To support our advocacy efforts, TNA compiles reports to present to decision-making bodies. See below for some of the recent sector reports that we have used to support these advocacy priorities.
