TNA’s 2018 Victorian Theatre Forum: IN THE ZONE – Register now!
Join us for VTF 2018: IN THE ZONE – Embracing Place, Savouring Difference, Tackling Taboos. Featuring keynote address from Neil Pharaoh, breakout sessions, sector updates, fireside yarns, Next Wave festival goodness and more. Open to TNA members and Next Wave artists. 9.30am – 5.30pm, Wed 9 May at Arts Centre Melbourne and Testing Grounds. Tickets: $25 – $85. Limited places. Register now.

Safe Theatres Forum – Communique and actions
47 theatre sector representatives have released a joint communique about the inaugural Safe Theatres Forum that took place on 18 & 19 March in Melbourne. TNA was represented by Executive Director, Nicole Beyer. All agreed to be the custodians of change, and TNA has committed to undertake 10 actions. Read more and download the communique here.

Last chance to apply: TNA SMASH Bursary for Independents!
Open to Australian-based Independents to recognise contribution to the sector, the bursary is valued at $500 and includes TNA membership, Forum tickets and a professional development allowance. Honoring Simon Abrahams’ and Alice Nash’s work with TNA. Submissions close next Fri 13 April at 5pm (AEST). Nominate yourself or nominate an independent here.

12 Apr – Bundanon Artist-In-Residence applications open next week (NSW)
Applications for 2019 residencies at the Bundanon Trust in Illaroo NSW will open on 12 April and close on 18 June. Open to arts professionals from Australia and overseas, working in all disciplines, residencies can be for research and development or for the creation of new work. More info here.

13 Apr – Apply now for Female Director in Residence at Malthouse Theatre (VIC)
This annual program provides intensive career development and a salary to a female theatre artist. This part-time contract position embeds the director within the core staff structure while providing practice-based professional development. Apply for 2018/19 program by 5pm, Fri 13 April.

16 Apr – ArtLands 2018 – Call For Papers (VIC)
Artlands Victoria is a multi-art, cross industry and inter-generational event that provides regional connections. Presented by Regional Arts Victoria as an integrated conference and cultural program, Artlands Victoria will be held from 10-14 October 2018 in Bendigo and Castlemaine. Call for Papers and Presentations will close at 5.00pm Monday 16 April (EST). More info here.

16 Apr – Creative Koori – Aboriginal Strategic Program funding – Up to $75,000 (NSW)
Individuals and organisations are invited to apply to deliver projects and employment that afford Aboriginal people greater opportunities to participate in, share and strengthen their culture through arts practice and develop arts careers and businesses. Applications close 16 April  (midnight, AEST). About the program.

20 Apr – Apply now for PAX 2018 (WA) 
Applications to present at the 2018 Performing Arts Exchange (PAX) close on Fri 20 April. PAX 2018 will be based at the brand new Red Earth Arts Precinct in Karratha, WA from 2 – 4 September. Travel subsidies are available. Read more here.

27 Apr – CuriousWorks is calling for storytellers and producers from Western Sydney (NSW)
The Behind Closed Doors program is run by CuriousWorks and supported by Screen Australia’s Enterprise Ideas Program. 8 writers and 2 producers will work alongside industry practitioners to create a series of six short films of around 10 minutes to be developed for television, online screening, and potential theatrical exhibition. Applications close Fri 27 April.

20 Apr – Blakdance and Backbone First Nations Dance Residency (QLD)
Are you an independent, company or collective of young artists looking to move your dance practice to the next level? This Brisbane-based residency runs from October 2 – December 31 2018 and will support the development and creation of new work in the fields of dance, dance theatre and experiments with bodies in space. Applications close 20 April. About the residency.

27 Apr – Call for Playwrights: Stage One at Theatre Arts, Curtin University (WA)
Stage One gives Western Australian playwrights the opportunity to write and premiere a new play with the Theatre Arts department of Curtin University, to be produced in the Studio at the Blue Room Theatre (3 – 8 December 2018). Applications close Fri 27 April. More info.

Artist Call Out: First Nations Dialogues – Round Three
The landmark meeting of First Nations artists from Australia and North America was held in New York, January 2018, and Emily Johnson led a report back during APAM 2018. Now seeking artists interested in attending Round Three – email admin@blakdance.org.au for further details.

CPA workshops – The Fundamentals of Fundraising $110
Geared at emerging arts practitioners who want the basics of arts fundraising, philanthropy and sponsorship or established arts practitioners who want a refresher, these full day workshops run by CPA State Managers will be offered in Adelaide (11 Apr) | Sydney (24 Apr) | Melbourne (3 May) | Hobart (9 May) Tickets: $110.

28 May – EOIs now open for Vitalstatistix’s Adhocracy Residency (SA)
Vitalstatistix is now seeking EOIs from South Australian artists for the annual Adhocracy residency, 20 Aug – 2 Sep, with lead artist Emily Johnson. Open to choreographers, dancers, writers, and other multidisciplinary artists. Seven places available. EOIs close Mon 28 May. More info.

ArtsFront – Follow the updates from the Brisbane Meeting
On 26 & 27 March 2018, forty leading artists, policymakers, academics and rights advocates gathered for the Arts Front Rights Symposium at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Attendees interrogated international rights agreements to which Australia is a signatory, with the aim of developing a framework for a shared vision for the future of arts and culture in Australia. 13 Apr – Last change to apply for Darwin Fringe (NT)

SHOWCASE VICTORIA 2018 will be held at Darebin Arts Centre, 17 & 18 Apr. Registration prices range from $140 for Day 2 for Observers. More info.

Creative Victoria – Independent review of touring and engagement in the creative industries
This review will look at how the Victorian touring environment could better serve our communities. If you have touring experience, you’re invited to give input via a series of interviews and open forums across the state in April, and an online survey in May. Register for your region below:
North-East Victoria (Wangaratta) – Wed 11 April, 11am – 12.30pm
North-West Victoria (Mildura) – Fri 13 April, 11am – 12.30pm;
Metro and Outer-metro Melbourne (Melbourne CBD) – Mon 16 April, 4pm – 5.30pm;

9 Apr – Melbourne Fringe Registrations open next week!
The annual, inclusive, open-access Melbourne Fringe Festival will take place from 13 – 30 September 2018. Be sure to register for the upcoming FAQ nights (all free, Auslan interpreted and held in accessible venues) throughout April and May. FAQ session info.

20 Apr – Creative State Summit 2018 – Call for speakers
The Creative State Summit will take place 14 – 15 June at Melbourne Museum.This year’s summit theme is ‘Creativity in a post-truth world’. Submissions are now open for speakers with insights, case studies or stories to share. Apply by 20 April. Find out more here.

20 Apr – Enlighten: A Festival of Projection
Now calling for proposals from all Bendigo or Central Victorian artists to propose ideas for public art, community and experimental projects to be part of the Englighten festival in Bendigo from 29 – 31 August. EOIs close Fri 20 Apr. Read more here.

22 Apr – State Library of Victoria Fellowhsips
Each year, the library offers Creative Fellowships to encourage the original and imaginative use or development of the Library’s collections for new work. Various programs are being offered in 2018. Most applications close Sun 22 April. About the fellowships.

13 Apr – 2018 ISPA Congress earlybird registration ends
Held June 11-15, in the European Capital of Culture, Leeuwarden-Friesland (The Netherlands), the 2018 Congress theme is Off The Beaten Track and will look at populism, countryside and the role of the performing arts. Earlybird registrations close 13 April. Read more here.

13 Apr – IETM Campus 2018 in Fuzine, Croatia
A week of intensive training in all aspects of international working, the campus is open to performing arts professionals with at least two years of experience in the contemporary arts field, taking their first steps in the world of international exchange. Fees range from €350 – €500. IETM Campus 2018 will take place in Fuzine, Croatia from 10 – 16 June 2018.  Apply before Fri 13 April.

Art Universe Summer Schools at Retzhof Castle, Austria
1. International Summer School of Physical Theatre (29 June – 6 July 2018) – a residential program open to dancers, choreographers, actors and contemporary circus performers working in various genres and styles. 2. Movement: Directing/Teaching Lab (August 15 – 21, 2018) –  an international program aimed at performance and movement practitioners interested in movement directing and teaching. 30 May – NSW Industry Forum: Young People and the Arts – Free event
TNA is partnering with TNN, ATYP, Polyglot, Create NSW, Sydney Opera House and Currency House to present an industry forum that continues the conversation around Sue Giles’ recent Platform Paper, ‘Young People and the Arts: An agenda for change’. 2.45 – 5.30pm, 30 May, ATYP, NSW. 27 Apr – Artist Call Out for Alice Desert Festival, NT
Do you have an original kids production or activity? An idea or developed work that kids will love? Red Hot Arts invites you to pitch, devise and present kids performances and activities in the 2018 Alice Desert Festival in Sep/Oct this year. EOIs close 27 April 2018. More info.

Register now for the 2018 ASSITEJ Artistic Gathering – Beijing
The 2018 Artistic Gathering will be a fascinating and full international event which draws together performance and discussion from 18-24 August. Registrations are now open. Remember to sign up for the ASSITEJ International newsletter to keep abreast of the action globally.

6-8 Apr – Spin Circus’ Hoop Convention 2018
Spin Circus presents: The Australian Hoop Convention. An annual hula hoop convention where you can learn from the best hula hoopers around! At Circus Oz, Melbourne. 8:30am-6:30pm, 6-8 April. Tickets $250. More info.

18-22 Apr – Last chance to register for Catapult Festival in Bathurst, NSW
Catapult is a meeting point between youth circus and adult professional circus and physical theatre. Fees start from $140 (Youth), and include open access workshops/forums, 3 special events, and catered meals. Programs run from 18 – 22 April in venues across Bathurst. About the festival.

Women’s Circus – Masterclass, Documentary Screening and Free Workshops
– Masterclass by Weave Movement Theatre: Women with/without disabilities will come together and create vibrant, innovative works and develop a new circus language. Cost $10 (unwaged) – $35 (Solidarity). 1pm – 4pm 29 Apr, The Drill Hall, 395 Barkly St, West Footscray.
– ‘Even When I Fall’ Documentary Screening and Q&A: Watch women rebuild a future as circus artists and company members of Nepal’s first contemporary circus – Circus Kathmandu. 6:30pm, 13 May, Footscray Community Arts Centre.
