10 May – TNA Annual General Meeting
Our famously fast AGM will cover how TNA worked to support the sector in 2023 in 20 minutes or less. Everyone is welcome to attend, but only members will be able to vote.

Independent Dance Sector Report and Webinar
A national scan of the independent dance sector. It includes a clear definition of the sector, key issues, and recommendations. The report is co-authored by Carl Sciberras, Joshua Lowe, and Frankie Snowdon. You can watch the webinar recording for a discussion on key findings.

‘Behind the Scenes’ Podcast with Andi Snelling
Andi shares a personal journey of creative practice and chronic illness. She chats about how she has found new ways to keep performing. She tells us how she collaborates with other disabled artists to do the same.

Equity Action Plan Update
TNA’s Equity Action Plan committee and staff have updated our EQAP with refreshed goals for 2024. We have also published a report on our progress for 2023.


NATIONAL STUFF

5 May – Australian Plays Transform Pilot Playwrights Group (Online)
Playwrights meet fortnightly over six months. Group leaders are Wesley Enoch and Anthea Williams. Playwrights are paid to attend group sessions. A carers bursary is also available.

5 May – Artback NT’s Performing Arts Development and Touring Program EOIs (NT)
This program supports national tours of performances and workshops. NT residents with a tour-ready production in theatre, comedy, dance may apply.

6 May – Super for Creatives: Free Online Webinar 
Learn the rules around Super: what you’re entitled to, how to check, and what to do if you think you should have been paid and you haven’t been.

6–8 May – Dance Makers Collective and Eastern Riverina Arts ‘Make it Happen’ (Regional NSW)
Free skills development for creatives and producers. The program covers: how to position your work, work with people, and deliver the project. Facilitated by Carl Sciberras.

6 May–3 June – Arts on Tour Green Touring Online Series
One-hour sessions that cover a range of topics and perspectives on climate conscious creative practices.

7 May – Sprung Dance Theatre Auslan Choir
Connect with community, learn and practice Auslan through the expressive art of sign-singing. 8-week online program. $15 per week.

8 May – Station Monthly Morning Tea (Regional NSW)
Meet people making and working at Station Creative Workspace at Eastern Riverina Arts.

9 May – Arts Access Victoria’s Accessible Arts Practice Online Seminar 
Designed for creatives working with Deaf and Disabled collaborators, participants and audiences. Thursday 9 May, 6–8 pm. Bookings essential.

9 May – Arts Wellbeing Collective ‘Navigate Well’ Resource & Webinar
Arts Wellbeing Collective has a free guide to career planning. It is for the specific needs of performing arts workers in the gig economy. The webinar will give an overview of this guide and answer questions on career planning in the arts.

13 May – CAAP and La Boite’s Playwrights Lab EOIs (QLD)
Day-long program for early to mid-career Asian Australian playwrights based in Meanjin. Receive a masterclass with an established playwright and connect with industry leaders. Honorarium provided.

13 May & 22 May – NAVA Talks AI: Free Online Sessions
13 May: AI and Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP). With Shevaun Wright, artist and solicitor at Terri Janke and Company. 22 May: AI and Copyright. Katherine Giles from Arts Law will shed light on the current application of copyright law to AI.

14 May – Accessible Arts’ ‘Accessible Curations’ Hybrid Panel 
Free event on the design and integration of creative access into public programs. Featuring curators Luke Létourneau, Rilka Oakley and producer and comedian Madeleine Stewart.

15 May – Bundanon’s 2025 Artists in Residence Program
Up to three weeks’ residency in Bundanon in NSW. The residency is free, but artists are responsible for their own travel, catering, equipment, and material costs.

15 May – Dancehouse 2025 Seasons EOIs
Selected projects receive a presentation fee of $5,000-$10,000. Regionally based and interstate artists receive travel and accommodation support.

15 May – Dancehouse Independent Choreographers Program 2024 
Professional development for independent Australian choreographers. Four interstate participants (2 from SA, and 2 from NSW) will be supported with travel costs, accommodation, and per diems for in-person intensives in Melbourne.

15 May – Punctum X Dancehouse On Residence 2024-25 (VIC)
A two-part residency in Bendigo 2024, and Melbourne 2025. For regionally based dance artists to develop an experiment across place. For each part, artists receive $2,500, access to two weeks’ of space, accommodation, and per diems. Interstate artists are welcome, but costs for flights are not covered. 

23 May – APAM Wire Zoom: Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo
The Australian Performing Arts Market will discuss what to expect at HK PAX 2024. It is the newest major international performing arts market. Panel members include the Executive Director of HK PAX Heidi Chu.  

26 May – Force Majeure INCITE Intensive (NSW)
Professional development for mid-career and established artists, held in Sydney. A deep-dive into personal practice, collaboration and dramaturgy in movement-based devising. $850 for one week in November.

29 May – Accessible Arts’ Access Rider Online Workshop
Free workshop for artists and arts workers with disability or who are d/Deaf. Artists will learn about generating Access Riders.

30 May – ActNOW Theatre Grounding Movement Workshop (SA)
A free movement workshop with international artist Laís Rosa.

31 May – Arts NT Arts Equipment Funding (NT)
Up to $10,000 for equipment. For NT artists to produce and present works. Funding covers things like sound and lighting equipment for stages and amphitheatres.

3 June – Arts Tasmania Individual and Group Funding (TAS)
TAS artists and groups can get up to $30,000. For creative developments, presenting work, residencies, or professional or audience development.

4 June – Creative Australia Playing Australia Project Investment
Funding to support performing arts touring to regional and remote communities.

4 June – Arts Tasmania Arts Organisations Funding (TAS)
Offers $50,000 to $200,000 for TAS arts orgs. They must use it to support their artistic programs and development.

4 June – Stella Young Award 2024
The prize is $3,000. It is for a young disabled artist under 30 years old. The award recognises their impact on disability activism and culture. The artist must work in comedy, performing arts or screen.

10 June – Helpmann Academy Creative Development Grants 2024
Up to $3,000 for emerging creatives to develop new projects.  

17 June – Artselerate: Business Incubator for Creatives (SA)
Program includes 2-day intensive, mentorship and peer support. Apply for the upcoming cohortthat starts in June.

18 June – Ian Potter Cultural Trust Emerging Artist Grants
Up to $15,000 to support emerging artists. You can use this to travel, for professional development, and networking opportunities overseas.

30 June – Arts SA Prospective Peer Assessors EOIs (SA)
Arts South Australia seeks peer assessors. Peer assessors make funding recommendations, assess grants, and provide expertise.

22 July – Merrigong Made from Scratch EOIs (NSW)
A performance night offering artists space and support to test new ideas with a live audience. Held at The Music Lounge, Wollongong Town Hall.

Terrapin Open Shop (TAS)
For TAS artists and orgs to get direct advice or hear more about what Terrapin is up to. Artists/orgs will be matched up with a Terrapin staff member who is best placed to help.  

A New Approach ‘The Big Picture 4’ Report
The fourth report in a series that tracks the government’s arts and cultural investment in Australia. Government investment in arts and culture has increased by 4% in 2021-22, but this is not in keeping with population growth or with other OECD countries.

Blak Futures Public Roundtable Recording
A conversation between First Nations Artistic Directors of dance companies. Presented by Australian Dance Theatre, BlakDance and Adelaide Festival.


VICTORIAN STUFF

9 May – Lucy Guerin Inc Make a Start Residency 2024 EOIs
Up to 2 week in-studio residencies for new or early-stage developments. Between July–December 2024.

13 May – Moonee Valley’s Gathering of Artists
Connect with local creatives and orgs, including Arts Wellbeing Collective, Music Victoria and Auspicious Arts, and TNA. The keynote speaker is Steven Richardson from Creative Australia. He is speaking on ‘The Fundamentals of Arts Fundraising’.

13 May – Regional Arts Victoria Halls Touring 2025 EOIs
For artists or companies to tour smaller scale work across regional Victoria. Applications go through a two-stage process. RAV will contact shortlisted applicants. They will ask for detailed marketing and technical information.

15 May – Melbourne Fringe X Dancehouse 2024
Projects can be new or existing. They will be presented at Dancehouse during the 2024 Melbourne Fringe. Selected works receive a Fringe Commission of $2,500.

18 May – Mojo Festival of Arts 2024
A day of live performances, music, and art held by Schizy Inc for World Schizophrenia Day. $10. There are a limited number of free tickets for anyone experiencing financial stress.

19 May – Melbourne Fringe Grants
Supports artists to present at the Melbourne Fringe. The Ralph Mclean Microgrants will cover registration fees. They will also cover other upfront costs for the artist. The Secret Ingredient Commission offers $4,000 for an innovative project that can be explicitly adapted for an outdoor venue.

24–25 May – Next Wave All School Lab 
Two days of workshops, conversations, and participatory experiences. All sessions are free.

26 May – Monash University Performing Arts Centres Progress Link Commissions EOIs
Offers $5,000 and a 5–10-day residency. For performance artists who have or want to develop a practice that incorporates other fields of knowledge in a fundamental way.

27 May – Regional Arts Victoria: Creative Learning Schools Touring Program
For artists or companies making work for young people. Selected work will tour schools across regional Victoria in 2025.

3 June – South Side Festival 2025 EOIs
For artists to present at Frankston City Council’s Festival. Offers $25,000 for large community projects or for local content. There is an informal drop-in session on 6 May.

21 June – Melbourne Fringe 2024 Registrations
For artists to present at this year’s Fringe. There are multiple tiers of registration. They start at $95 for free events, $315 for a single ticketed event, and $430 for two or more shows.


ASSITEJ STUFF Youth Arts & Young Audiences

10 May – Martin-Lysicrates Prize 
For playwrights to submit the first 10-12 minutes of a new play for young people aged 12–15. $3,000 for the winner and $1,000 each for the runners-up.  

13 May – Performance Space Youth Ambassadors EOIs
Young artists 16­–25 will join in peer networking events. They will also get to attend performance workshops, Q&As with artists from the Liveworks Festival, and development showings. They will get to see some Liveworks shows for free.

19 May – The Australian Government’s Youth Steering Committee Applications
People 12–24 have an opportunity to work with the Minister for Youth and the Australian Government. The Youth Steering Committee will help deliver on the Government’s new strategy Engage! A strategy to include young people in the decisions we make.

31 May – La Mama Emerge EOIs (VIC)
Provides theatre makers aged 18–26 with dedicated time and space to develop their own work. The program includes weekly workshops on Saturdays from 20 July–14 Sept. It ends with a one-week performance season at La Mama Courthouse.

14 July – Carclew 2025 Fellowships (SA)
Up to $10,000 for creatives aged 26 years and under. They can use it for professional and creative development, exploration, and mentorship.


CIRCUS AND PHYSICAL THEATRE (CAPT) STUFF

5 May – GLOW Fest 2024 Artist Applications
For artists to present workshops or performances at the circus arts and lifestyle event. Held in Waves Campground in NSW on 5–9 September.

31 May – La Nuit du Cirque 2024 Registrations
Taking place in France on 15–17 November 2024. Circus companies, producers, artists are invited to register or to take part. There are online sessions available.

26–29 September – Melbourne Juggling Convention
Workshops and networking for jugglers. Tiered registration starting from $40, the Early Bird 4-day pass costs $140. The workshop schedule will be announced soon.
