TNA STUFF

TNA CaPT Programs Evaluation Report
Across 2023 and 2024, TNA partnered with Creative Australia to deliver capacity building initiatives for the Victorian CaPT sector. We have published an evaluation report on what we delivered, and what we have learnt. 

NSW Government Cultural Tax Reform Submission
In August, the NSW Government asked for input on opportunities for tax reforms that support the arts and creative industries. This was one of TNA’s recommendations to government in the lead-up to the Federal Election, so TNA made a submission

Behind the Scenes Podcast

Duck for Cover Insurance – New Activities Covered
Duck for Cover has announced a new category that is covered by their insurance policies. Category 4 covers Directors, Choreographers, Designers, Stage Managers, and more.

Fair Work Commission – New Rules for Small Businesses
Since August, employees of small businesses have a workplace right to disconnect. Employees can refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact or attempted contact outside their working hours. The Fair Work Commission has also introduced an ’employee choice’ pathway for eligible casual workers. Read the new rules.

8–11 Sept – Not-for-Profit Finance Week 
The Institute of Community Directors Australia is holding free webinars on financial sustainability. Topics include DGR status and Artificial Intelligence in fundraising.

8 Sept – Arts Tasmania Artsbridge (TAS)
Funding for TAS artists to travel for arts or cultural heritage activities. Or for orgs and artists to bring professionals to TAS to deliver activities.

9 Sept – CAAP Longhouse: Works in Progress EOIs
For Asian Australian performance makers to share their works-in-progress. Artists must be in Sydney to present their work in-person. Interstate and regional artists will need to cover their own travel expenses.

11 Sept – APAM Groundwork (Online, Monthly)
This month’s professional development session will focus on touring in Korea and Japan.

11 Sept – Brown’s Mart Critical Conversations
Panel discussion that brings together BIPOC women and queer artists. Share what it means to be the first, the only, or the few in creative spaces. 

11 Sept – Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups (WA)
Up to $80,000 to deliver a one-off project or a program of activity in WA.

 12 Sept – PACT Residencies 2025–2026 EOIs
For artists in their first ten years of practice to develop new work. Resident artists receive space, equipment, technical and producing support, mentorship, and $5,000 for artist and mentor fees. 

12 Sept – Australian Chinese Charity Foundation Community Project Grant
Up to $10,000 for projects that support youth, elderly, and disabled community members.

14 Sep – Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo Open Call
HKPAX 2026 open call for International Showcases and Pitches close 12 October. Showcases must be full-length at 45 to 60min. There is a US$10,000 allowance provided. Register for an online briefing session on 17 September.

14–17 Sept – Eastern Riverina Arts Creative Industries Bootcamp (NSW)
Five days of professional development. There is a session on Cultural Tourism with Creative Plus Business, a two-day session on Strategic Thinking and Project Design, and a session on Creative Reset. Sessions are free or heavily subsidised.

15 Sept – Multicultural NSW Stronger Together Grants (NSW)
Up to $50,000 for NSW multicultural projects. Projects should make a lasting positive impact on social cohesion and meet a community need.

15 Sept – PICA Hyperlocal Residencies (WA)
Residencies of up to five months for local artists to develop a long-term project.

15 Sept – Moosehead Award 2026
Cash support for Australian comedians putting on new shows at Melbourne Comedy Festival. $3,000 towards venue rental, $2,500 for creative support, and up to $2,000 for accommodation.

15 Sept – Q The Locals 2026 (NSW)
For shows that haven’t been staged locally before. The Q will provide in-kind support. 80% of the remaining income after box office will go to the project/artist.

16 Sept – Creative Australia First Nations Arts and Culture Awards
Nominations are open. The Established Artist of the Year Award offers $25,000 for a First Nations artist’s outstanding achievement. The Red Ochre Award offers $60,000 for senior First Nations artists in Artistic Excellence, Cultural Advocacy and Leadership. The Youth Award offers $25,000 for a First Nations artist’s achievement, aged 18–35. 

20 Sept–8 Nov – Encounter Theatre Dramaturgy Development Group
Online sessions featuring industry-leading dramaturgs. Explore different approaches to dramaturgy. $10 per session.

22 Sept – Tessitura Career Accelerator
Eight-week professional development for arts administrators. Applicants must have lived experience that is underrepresented or marginalised in the arts. The 2025 program runs from 13 Oct to 5 Dec. It is free for successful applicants.

24 Sept – Sydney Festival Festival Commons EOIs (NSW)
Professional development program for BIPOC festival-makers and community leaders from Greater Sydney. Participants receive $2,400, mentorship, and attend a ten-day in-person lab during Sydney Festival.

26 Sept – Queensland Ballet Bespoke 2026: Call for Creative Collaborators
Choreographers, designers, costumiers, composers, and interdisciplinary creatives are invited to pitch original ideas for a contemporary dance season.

26 Sept – Crossroad Arts C.R.U.S.H Scholarships
Three days of workshops on contemporary movement, performance and theatre-making. 31 Oct–2 Nov in Mackay. Cost: $90. Disabled or d/Deaf artists who live regionally/rurally can apply for a $2,000 travel scholarship, with the attendance fee waived.  

30 Sept – American Australian Association Arts Fund
Up to $5,000 USD for Australian early-career artists to pursue artistic development in the US. Applicants should have a formal offer letter from the host body or accredited educational institution.

30 Sept – NAB Foundation Community Grants
Up to $25,000 for local projects that help communities withstand and recover from natural disasters.

1 Oct – Queensland Premier’s Drama Award
Submissions are open for new and undeveloped ideas without a completed script. The winning submission receives $30,000. Queensland Theatre will develop and stage it.

1 Oct – Independent Arts Foundation Grants (SA)
Up to $1,000 for emerging artists and $5,000 for groups to undertake professional or creative development. Up to $4,000 for an artist aged 26 and under to undertake professional development in Italy. IAF Grants are for SA artists only.

2 Oct – NT Arts Grants Programs 2025-26
All funding categories have been released. The first deadline is 2 October for Arts Projects Round 1. Creative Fellowship closes on 20 October. Full list of grants and deadlines listed in Grant Guidelines.

7 Oct – Create SA Arts and Culture Grants
State funding for SA artists and arts orgs. Includes up to $15,000 for artists to undertake professional development, and up to $15,000 for artists and orgs to undertake market development. There are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Grants and Deaf and Disability Grants available too.

20 Oct – ‘Dance Research NRW’ 2026 Callout
For dance artists to undertake residencies for theme-based, production-independent research. Artists receive up to 6,000 EUR and a documentation budget of up to 1,000 EUR.

29 Oct – ANAT Synapse Residency 2026
For artists who work with science and/or technology to undertake research and creative practice at a host organisation. The artist receives $18,706, and up to $3,500 in project expenses across four months. The intended host organisation should be confirmed before application.

Culture Counts – Arts & Culture Benchmark Report 2024–25
A report on audience behaviour in the Asia-Pacific. It collects feedback from 130,000 arts attendees, participants and artists.

Adelaide Fringe Registrations
Registrations are open to present at Adelaide Fringe. Registrations start from $210.

Survey for d/Deaf, Disabled, and Neurodivergent Artists and Arts Workers
As part of the National Arts and Disability Plan, Disabled Creative Collective will deliver a series of national forums and gatherings focused on supporting d/Deaf and disabled artists and arts workers to build their leadership, skills and networks. They are running a survey to shape their program over the next four years.

MEAA and Dancers Australia: Dance Industry Code of Practice 2025-26
A Code of Practice for dancers, dance teachers and choreographers. It covers pay and conditions, and standards around contracts and workplace safety.


VICTORIAN STUFF

5 & 6 Sept – Pony Cam x Hothouse Theatre Performer Callout
Pony Cam is looking for performers aged 55+ to participate in their intergenerational performance ‘Anything You Can Do’. There will be an initial workshop to get to know Pony Cam, with next steps about the process.

11 Sept – Blindside x Next Wave’s Performance Artists Callout
For performance-based artists to participate in Blindside x Next Wave’s 2025 Emerging Curator Program with Rasha Tayeh. Each artist will be given a participation fee of $500.

18 Sept – 2025 John Paul Memorial Lecture at Malthouse
Panel discussion on the urgency of environmental storytelling. Ecologists and storytellers share their perspectives. Tickets are $20.

21 Sept – City of Melbourne Council Plan 2025-29 Consultation
City of Melbourne is seeking feedback on their new draft Council Plan. You can help ensure Arts and Culture remains on the agenda by focusing on the proposed strategic priority ‘Vibrant and Creative Melbourne’. This is on page 29 of the draft Plan.

28 Sept – City of Melbourne Aboriginal Arts Grants
Up to $20,000 for Aboriginal artists and creative organisations to develop and present work.

4–5 Oct – LGI HOTBED: Critical Choreography with Shelley Lasica
A two-day workshop. Explore how to produce, identify, and analyse choreographic material and thinking. Cost: $80.

Volunteer Dancers for Mass Effect at Melbourne Fringe
Danish dance company HIMHERANDIT PRODUCTIONS seeks guest dancers. No experience needed. Must be available for one workshop on 29 September and 60% of shows across a two-week season in early October.

Victorian Government Wellbeing Strategy and Action Plan 2025-35
The Victorian Government has a new strategy and action plan to promote good mental health. It mentions the role of creative and cultural industries.


CYPA STUFF (Children, Young People and the Arts)

8 Sept – Arts Tasmania Youth Arts Organisations Funding (TAS)
Up to $80,000 for TAS youth arts orgs to deliver activities that engage young people under 25 years old.

 8 Sept – City of Melbourne SIGNAL Young Creatives Lab (VIC)
Project funding of up to $8,000 for new projects led by creatives aged 18–25. Includes mentoring and production support.

21 Sept – Carclew Project and Development Grants (SA)
Funding to develop and present work which involves children and young people in the arts. Up to $10,000 for individuals aged 26 and under, and up to $20,000 for orgs. Up to $10,000 for youth orgs to also build their capacity.

4–5 Oct – Ctrl + Alt + Create (VIC)
Workshop series for artists aged 14–25 to explore choreographic practices. Workshops with Holly Rowan, Yolanda Lowatta, and Melanie Lane. Early-bird pass starts at $45.

24 Oct – HEY Grants (VIC)
Funding for youth-led projects in VIC. For LGBTIQA+ young people under 25 with projects that will support their LGBTIQA+ peers. Funding is also available for services that improve their support for LGBTIQA+ young people.

The Foundation for Young Australians Making Waves Workshops 
Free activism workshops for young people aged 15–35. Gain practical skills for positive change. The next session is in October on decolonisation for First Nations and BIPOC.

Next Wave (In)trospect Resource
A reflective tool created by Lydia Tesema from Next Wave’s Young Artistic Directorate. It’s designed to help young creatives explore the tension between their personal values, artistic identity, and real-world choices.

NDIS Right to be Heard Resource
Youth Disability Advocacy Service have created an NDIS information and education hub. It is by and for disabled young people.

Take TNA’s Salary Survey
TNA’s Salary Survey is still open for small to medium arts organisations. This year, it has a special section on circus trainers, so please take it if you want to help with benchmarking!

29 & 30 Sept – Flying Fruit Fly Circus National Youth Circus Auditions
For senior students to train at an advanced level. Auditions include circus workshops with trainers, and movement and performance tasks.

24 Sept – Showcase Victoria CaPT Webinar: Developing Audiences for First Nations Work
Showcase Victoria is delivering professional development sessions over September–November. The second in the series focuses on how presenters and artists can meaningfully develop audiences for First Nations Circus and Physical Theatre works.

4 Oct – NORPA Physical Explorations of Sustained Defiance Workshop (NSW)
Free circus-based physical workshop in Lismore. On how defiance, resistance, care and support can be expressed through the body.

8–10 Oct – NICA Australian Circus Summit
NICA has released a preview of their three-day program. It covers circus and research, the current state of circus, and what’s next for the sector. Early-bird registrations start at $90.

Circostrada DIVE International Touring Toolkit
Guides to support contemporary circus artists and companies seeking to present their work internationally. The guides address key aspects of international touring like logistics, funding, and intercultural dialogue. Download the toolkit for touring in France, and the toolkit for touring in the UK.
