TNA’s New Ethics Framework

TNA is very pleased to share our new TNA Ethics Framework, developed in 2024 by TNA staff and Board using the Ethics Framework Guide from The Ethics Centre.

The TNA Ethics Framework is a guiding document that establishes a clear point of reference when making decisions across our organisation, whether big or small. It provides a clear statement of why TNA exists, what it regards as good, and how it will achieve the things that are worth pursuing.

  • Our Purpose explains why we exist and what we were set up to achieve.
  • Our Values shape what we believe to be good, guiding our actions, activities, and behaviours.
  • Our Principles determine how we should go about achieving our values.

When is it used?

This framework will help us navigate uncertainty and make sound, self-aware decisions that we can defend and be proud of. It will be used during any key decision-making process, including but not limited to:

  • Entering new partnerships or agreements
  • Making public statements
  • Program design and priorities
  • Staff workplans
  • Recruitment

Who uses it?

The framework will not alter TNA’s usual delegations of authority with regards to decision making. However, it does require the Board or staff member making those decisions to adhere to the commitments of this framework.

How is it used?

Decision makers take the issue, question, or decision at hand and considers one at a time whether or not it aligns with TNA’s purpose, values, and principles as set out in the framework. The framework will provide guidance on whether this is the right decision, and/or indicates what course of action would better align with the framework. Decisions do not have to unanimously satisfy every element of the framework every time, but trade-offs must be acknowledged, justified, and accepted.
