TNA announces APAF dates and curator

TNA is pleased to announce that we will be presenting the seventh Australian Performing Arts Forum (formerly ATF) from 13-15 September 2023 in Brisbane in association with Brisbane Festival and Brisbane Powerhouse. APAF is a national gathering for practitioners, producers and cultural provocateurs in theatre, circus, dance, hybrid and interdisciplinary work.

Save the date!

CURATOR

We are thrilled to announce that we have appointed Sanja Simić as Curator for APAF 2023.

With the starting idea of How to Leave a Good Legacy, Sanja will work alongside the TNA team, partners and guest speakers/facilitators to deliver the three day forum.

Sanja Simić is an award winning, Meanjin based theatre director and creative producer, with over a decade of experience in the Australian theatre sector. As La Boite’s Creative Producer (2017-21), she delivered consecutive seasons of mainstage work and led the programming team in producing the company’s suite of Artist Development Programs, including the annual HWY festival of new work. She was Director in Residence at La Boite Theatre Company from 2021-22 and previously held leadership positions at the Australia Council for the Arts (International Projects) and Performance Space. She is currently the Development Executive at Unless Pictures in Meanjin.

On behalf of the Board and Staff of TNA, we are excited to be hosting a much needed gathering in Meanjin on the lands of the Turrbal and Jagera people. We look forward to some good yarning and connecting.
– Erica McCalman, Chair, Theatre Network Australia

MORE INFORMATION

Times: APAF will start mid morning on Wednesday 13th September, and run until mid-late afternoon on Friday 15th, ending no later than 5pm. The evenings will be free-time and we encourage you to stay on for the weekend of Brisbane Festival shows.

Registration: TNA will once again be running an Expression of Interest process for Independent artists and arts workers to attend for a heavily discounted price. Prices for companies will also be kept as low as possible. Discounts for TNA members will apply. Registration will open mid year.

Program: As always, APAF will be programmed with a wide variety of formats, with as many small group sessions and networking opportunities as possible. Sanja will be talking to the sector over the coming months to ensure the forum represents a full breadth of issues and topics. In the meantime, you can add your ideas to this survey form.

Access: Along with keeping the prices affordable, TNA will provide Auslan interpreters, quiet rooms, and other support. We are currently working through what APAF’s hybrid/digital offering will be.

Previous Forums: TNA has archived extensive documentation and footage from previous forums on the APAF website. Please use the links at the top of this page.

SUPPORTERS

Along with the Brisbane Festival and Brisbane Powerhouse, APAF is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland. Theatre Network Australia is assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body, and by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. TNA will be working with state and territory funders to seek support for independents.
