21 Feb – Join us at the ‘Not In My Workplace’ Summit in Melbourne
The summit runs from 12pm-6.30pm, Thur 21 Feb 2019 at Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Gather tools and resources to help eliminate harassment in your workplace. TNA is attending with a small group, if you’re a TNA company member, and are interested in joining us ($100pp), contact Simone.

6 Feb – Accessible Arts’ Disability Inclusion Training in Sydney
The next Disability Inclusion Training session runs from 10am – 12.30pm on Wed 6 Feb at The Arts Exchange, The Rocks, Sydney. Content includes access barriers; rumours and realities of the disability experience; and communicating with respect and confidence. Sessions facilitated Liz Martin, Accessible Arts. Info and bookings.

5 Feb – ActNow Theatre’s Queer Youth Theatre Workshops – Free
A free creative program for LGBTQI+ people aged 18-30 to work with professional artists, develop performance skills, meet like-minded people and build pathways into the arts industry, led by local queer theatre director Teddy Dunn. Sessions run Tuesdays from Feb 5, from MakeSpace in Adelaide. More info.

5 Feb – Artist workshops at Blue Room Theatre, Perth
Learn new techniques in ‘Mad Props’ with Trick of the Light Theatre (NZ) on 5 Feb and ‘Physical Articulation for Comedy’ with internationally based Kallo Collective on 14 Feb. Both workshops run from 10am – 2.30pm at Blue Room Theatre, Perth. Tickets: $50 members | $65 Non-members. Workshop info.

28 Feb – National Indigenous Arts and Cultural Authority Consultation – Have your say
TNA has joined with other performing arts peak orgs in support of a National Indigenous Arts and Cultural Authority (NIACA) to protect and promote the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s arts and cultures. Read our Joint Letter of Support. An Online NIACA survey is open until 28 Feb 2019.

31 Mar – Sydney Festival launches Australia’s first Disability Programming Initiative
Designed to increase the number of artists with disability creating work for festivals, this initiative, in partnership with Accessible Arts, introduces an accessible and inclusive pitching process. Artists can submit via print, audio, video or in person by 31 March 2019. More info here. 

31 Mar – Stories from the Future – National Workshops – Diversity Arts Australia
Join this workshop series to imagine a future where cultural diversity is present at every level in the arts. Sydney University’s Dr Remy Low, Lecturer from the Sydney School of Education and Social Work, will be a workshop facilitator. SA, ACT and WA based creatives, register by 31 Mar 2019. More info.

24 Feb – Next Wave Festival 2020 applications now open
Pitch your most critical and ambitious artistic project for presentation at Next Wave Festival 2020: A Government of Artists. Artists will develop their project over 12 months with support from Next Wave, culminating in a presentation which takes place in Melbourne in May 2020. Applications close 24 Feb. Read more.

5 Feb – Australia Council – Career Development and Arts Projects Grants close soon
Development: Individual artists, arts workers or groups of artists can apply for support to further develop skills or improve capacity to build an enduring career. | Arts Projects for Individuals & Groups: Covers a range of activities of benefit to the arts sector and wider public. 11 Feb – SA Independent Makers and Presenters
Grants covering artist development, residencies, projects and more will close on 25 Feb 2019. Emerging artists can apply for up to $20,000 in this new funding opportunity. 30 Apr – Silver Gull Play Award Submissions Open
Subtlenuance Theatre have announced entries are open for the 2019 Silver Gull Play Award which recognises an outstanding play by a local writer that explores philosophical or political themes. The prize pool is $5000, with the winning playwright receiving $3000. Entries close 30 Apr 2019.

Safe Theatres Forum – Video overview of LPA’s Code of Practice
In this video from the Safe Theatres Workshop at Arts Centre Melbourne in Oct 2018, Kim Tran, LPA, goes through the recently released Code of Practice to Prevent Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment & Bullying. Watch here.

4 Feb – Artist Call Out: Apply for Bondi Feast
Bondi Feast is back and taking submissions for 2019. Taking over the Bondi Pavilion and surrounds from 9-20 July, this fringe-style winter arts festival wants to hear from you. Submissionsopen on 4 Feb and close on 24 Mar. Info session on Tue 5 Mar. More info here.

5-22 Mar – Building a Case for Support – CPA’s National workshops with Jane Wentworth
Creative Partnerships Australia’s masterclasses with strategic brand consultant Jane Wentworth (UK) is aimed at leaders of small, medium and large arts and cultural organisations and will be presented in Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart from 5 – 22 March. More info.

14 Feb – Playwrights of Parramatta (POP) applications open
Playwrights in the Western Suburbs of Sydney are invited to be part of the Playwrights of Parramatta (POP) 2019 program. Attend new productions and participate in conversations with theatre professionals about the craft of playwriting. Apply by 14 Feb 2019.

14 Feb – Directors Professional Development (DPD) applications open
Directors are invited to be a part of National Theatre of Parramatta’s DPD Program. Participants will attend productions and participate conversations about the craft of playwriting and directing and also a chance to interact with Playwrights of Parramatta. Apply by 14 Feb 2019.

5 Mar – Artist Call Out: Wine Residency in Adelaide (truly!)
Australian Network for Art & Technology (ANAT) has announced a new art + science residency in partnership with the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI), based in Adelaide. Residency is 12 weeks between Apr and Dec 2019. Open to Australian artists working in any discipline/medium. Applications close 5pm (ACDT), Tue 5 Mar 2019. Residency info.

25-29 Mar – Solo Performance Improvisation Workshop – Brisbane
Develop your skills of generating and shaping content whilst working between movement, vocal and imagination modes. Presented by international artist and teacher Andrew Morrish at Backbone (38 Lytton Road , East Brisbane, QLD) from 10.30am-5pm, 25 – 29 Mar. Arts Tasmania – Join the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register
Anyone professionally engaged with the arts sector can join the expert register. All assessors are paid in accordance with Tasmanian Government guidelines including a fee for the assessment, travel and accommodation. EOIs are always open! Join here.

National call for mentors: New Arts + Culture Mentor Program
This national volunteer program aims to build a stronger and more connected arts and culture sector. Mentors offer an hour of time per month to provide advice and support to another artist or practitioner. Call Out for images – 365 Days: Australian Women Directing
Across 2019 the Australian Women Directors Alliance (AWDA) will post one image per day of Australian women artists as they direct and facilitate projects. Send your images and get involved in this visibility project. Download the project overview.

TNA Resource Pick: Report on Workplace Sexual Harassment
The Australian Human Rights Commission has released their 4th national survey titled ‘Everyone’s Business’ outlining dimensions of sexual harassment in Australia, particularly in workplaces. Check out the info graphic summary. Full report here.

2 Feb – The Meditation Collective – Free Sessions
The Meditation Collective offers a safe space for people of diverse backgrounds and experiences to facilitate enquiry into the intersectionality of spirituality, identity, gender, culture, wisdom, and tradition. Open to all skill levels. 1pm – 3pm, Sat 2 Feb and Sat 2 Mar at The Channel, Southbank.

7 Feb – Call for submissions: Theatre Works: She Is Vigilante
Seeking four writers who identify as women to devise and write scripts for a series of short works to be presented at Theatre Works St Kilda in late 2019. Applicants must submit before 6pm on the 7 Feb. More info.

7 Feb – Vic Arts Grants – Applications close soon
Applications will be accepted for requests between $5,000 and $60,000. Solo projects are eligible to apply for up to $20,000. Current round closes 5pm 7 Feb for activity commencing after 1 Jul 2019. Read more here. 

26 & 27 Feb – Diversity Arts Australia: Fair Play Symposium – $110 – $440
Addressing equity and inclusion, this symposium is designed for the Victorian arts and creative industries. First Nations, Disability, and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities share knowledge, leading practice and lived experience. Arts House – Makeshift Workshops and Gatherings

CAMP: A theatre-making workshop for those with and without disability. 5 Feb – Chamber Made: Artist Residency for women
The Orange House by the Sea Artist Residency is for mid-career women and non-binary artists who are working at the intersections of performance, sound and music. Includes artist fee of $3,000 and access to a Melbourne-based industry mentor. 2019 residency to take place between 6 – 26 May 2019. Apply by Fri 15 Feb 2019.

18-22 Mar – Dance Massive 2019: Artist Masterclasses
Ausdance Victoria is presenting a masterclasses program for artists from 18 – 22 March 2019 as part of the Dance Massive Festival. All classes held at WXYZ Studios, 130 Dryburgh St, North Melbourne. View the program.

26 Feb – Weave Movement Theatre
Weave is offering day and evening classes between Feb and Apr 2019. Build confidence and communication through drama, movement, expression and creativity. Teachers include Zya Kane and Artistic Director, Janice Florence. For registration and more details, contact Weave here.

8 Feb – VicHealth Grants: Gender Equality through the Arts
Applicants from councils in Victoria are invited to apply for grants providing funding to local government gender equality initiatives in partnership with arts and creative organisations. Applications close on Fri 8 Feb. Read more here.

28 Feb – Arts West hosts 2019 Catch Up Club program
Join Arts West and fellow artists at this month’s casual catch up. Armed with fresh ingredients, artists will collaborate with each other to bake their pizzas in the wood fired oven at Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre. 5pm – 8pm, Thur 28 Feb. 20 Feb – Resilience training in Melbourne
Resilient Melbourne has opened registration for upcoming training on resilience fundamentals, with the first round taking place as full-day training on 20 Feb. The course costs $100 to attend with lunch provided. Register online and view other upcoming training dates in March and April.

VAPAC’s Benchmarking resource: Oh You Beautiful Stage
Oh You Beautiful Stage (OYBS) was first developed in 1997 (2nd edition 2006, 3rd Edition 2012). Since this time OYBS has become a major reference source for performing arts centres, planners, architects and industry specialists in Australia as well as usage internationally. This is the 4th Edition of this valuable resource.

INTERNATIONAL STUFF

Taiwan – Australia: Indigenous Artist in Residence Program for NT artist
Artback NT is offering a 6-week residency (between May and Dec 2019) in Taiwan for an emerging or established Indigenous artist from the Northern Territory. Support includes: Artist fee of $6,000, travel costs and accommodation, studio, interpretative assistance and freight allowance. Apply by 1 March 2019. Read more.

3 Feb – IETM: Campus Eleusis and Satellite Milan 2019
IETM Campus (23 – 29 June in Greece) is a week of intensive training in international working open to performing arts professionals. Applications close 3 Feb 2019. | Satellite Milan (2 – 5 May in Italy) features inspiring lectures and workshops followed by an open space for an exchange of ideas and expertise on the topic. Early-bird registration deadline: 18 Apr 2019.

ASSITEJ STUFF – YOUTH ARTS & YOUNG AUDIENCES

15 Feb – Deadline extended! Call for submissions 2019 ASSITEJ Magazine
The 2019 ASSITEJ Artistic Gathering will be in Kristiansand, Norway from Sep 2-7, 2019. The theme is Towards the Unknown: Confronting the Present. Submissions are open until 15 Feb. Both visuals and text should address the theme: Confronting the Present. More info.

30 Apr – Call for Performances: 20th ASSITEJ World Congress – Tokyo, Japan
Open Call for international productions for the 20th ASSITEJ World Congress / International Theatre Festival for Children and Young Audiences in Tokyo from 14 – 24 May 2020. The theme of the festival is ‘Towards the Unknown’. Applications close 30 Apr 2019. Read more.

15 Mar – Open Call: High Fest International Performing Arts 2019 – Armenia
Performing arts companies and artists are invited to present their productions in all genres of performing arts including theatre at High Fest in Yerevan Armenia from 1 – 10 Oct 2019. Applications close 15 Mar 2019. More info.

12 &13 Sep – Save the date: Youth Arts Summit 2019
National Youth Arts Summit, 12-13 Sep 2019 at Carclew, Adelaide. Day 1 will be handed over to young creatives (under 30). Day 2 is for all professional arts organisations, cultural leaders, artists, young creatives and policy makers. 29 Mar – Class Clowns 2019 – Melbourne International Comedy Festival
This program invites teens aged 14-18yrs to unleash their comic voice through storytelling, stand up, sketch or musical comedy. Registration is free and now open. State Finals to be held in March 2019, with the Grand Final in Melbourne on 29 March. Read more.

CIRCUS & PHYSICAL THEATRE (CaPT) STUFF

Wrap up – Circus & Beyond: Arts Workers Forum in Sydney, Jan 2019
TNA attended the two-and-a-half day event which brought together the professional and youth circus sectors for discussion, debate, provocation and collaboration. Read the wrap up.

20 Feb – Chookas and Chats: Circus Performers Meetup, Adelaide Fringe
Free event for emerging to established circus artists. Facilitated by working artists, this is a chance to imagine, plan and connect, not an arts market! No bookings. Presented by South Australian Circus Centre with support from TNA. Dates: 20 Feb & 6 Mar, 3pm – 4pm at Fringe Club, Adelaide.

10-14 Jun – Open Call: Residency for Contemporary Circus Artists, Münster, Germany
The research project Zirkus | Wissenschaft invites applications for  contemporary circus artists. Offering the chance to develop new work in collaboration with the students from the University of Münster. Open to artists interested in dramaturgical reflections. 15 Feb – Women’s Circus seeking board member
Women’s Circus are looking for an individual who is attracted to the mission and values of the organisation.
