Inquiry into the cultural and creative industries in Victoria – Submission by TNA

Late last year the Victorian Government began accepting submissions to an inquiry into the cultural and creative industries in Victoria. This inquiry was initiated in May 2023 by members of the Victorian Parliament to determine the impact of Revive on Victoria’s arts and cultural industries, and whether Victoria’s receives its fair share of national arts and cultural spending. The inquiry was due to finalise its report by November 2024, but has only began accepting submissions at this time.

TNA submission communicates that we are confident that the relevant Federal and Victorian departments and agencies are well equipped and resourced to respond to the inquiry and provide the information it seeks to obtain.

Our submission highlights how stagnant investment and inconsistent funding rounds from the Victorian Government is damaging Victoria’s reputation, limiting the sector’s ability to provide creative experiences for all Victorians, and seeing talented and experienced leaders and artists leave the sector or state because of unsustainable careers. Per capita, Victoria is one of the lowest investors in the performing arts of any state/territory.

TNA calls upon the members of the inquiry committee to push for the Victorian Government to adequately resource Creative Victoria, as well as the priorities outlined in the new Creative State strategy when it is released.
