TNA STUFF

4 April – TNA CaPT Mentoring Session EOIs
TNA is running Round 2 of the CaPT Mentoring Program. This connects independent circus and physical theatre artists and producers with established practitioners. The session is 60 minutes. Bring a specific question about your career or ask advice on how to take the next step. Selected participants are paid $80.  

TNA’s WA Youth Action Plan Submission
The WA state government is working on a new action plan for young people. TNA has made a submission which you can read on our website.

TNA Access in Circus Workplaces Survey
We’re running a survey about access in Australian Circus and Physical Theatre workplaces. It’s for people who have personal experience with disability of any kind or duration. The survey focuses on understanding your experiences of access and equity. Your input in this survey is crucial for shaping what we do next. It is open until the end of May.


NATIONAL STUFF

5 April – Bell Shakespeare General Auditions (NSW and VIC)
For actors to connect with Bell Shakespeare for consideration across future seasons. General auditions will happen in Melbourne and Sydney in May and August.

8 April – Performance Space Experimental Performance Fellowship Artist EOI
$30,000 for an NSW artist or collective. Undertake a year-long, self-directed program of research and development for a major project. Artists should have a practice in experimental performance work.

8 April – Artist Wellbeing Online Workshop
Facilitated by creative arts therapist Tanya Voges for performing artists and arts workers. $15.

9 April – Regional Event Fund: Incubator Event (Regional NSW)
$20,000 for an individual, company, or organisation to establish a new event in Regional NSW. The event should reflect the local culture of the region and attract visitors. 

9 April – APAX 2024 Market Applications
This national performing arts market will be in Melbourne from 19–23 August. Travel bursaries are available, opening in late May. 

14 April – Australian Institute of Company Directors: Not-for-Profit Directors Scholarships 2024/2025
One and a half-day course for existing or aspiring Not-for-Profit Directors. The course covers governance, risk, financial performance, and strategy. The scholarship covers the course fee.

15 April – La Boite Artist Masterclass on Auditions (QLD)
La Boite’s Artistic Director Courtney Stewart and the producing team will cover the do’s and don’ts of the audition room. $25, with complimentary tickets available for unwaged artists.

15 April – Brown’s Mart Performance Experiments (NT)
Supports new collaborations and experiments for artists from any artform. Artists work in pairs over one week, which ends with a micro performance outcome. Each artist is paid $1,250, with access to studio space and technical support.

21 April – Australian Plays Transform (APT) Duologue 2024
Supports face-to-face or remote exchange between mid-career playwrights and their chosen collaborator/dramaturg. APT will pay both writer and collaborator to meet three hours each month for six months.

21 April – APT  Erin Thomas Playwright Fund
$1,000 for a playwright to undertake mentorship with a dramaturg, and a $1,000 travel bursary for them to connect with the wider industry.

1 May – Churchill Fellowships
Supports overseas travel for four to eight weeks to explore a topic of interest. This can be in the field of arts, science, health, or any topic that the individual can share to improve their community.

1 May – Sibiu International Performing Arts Market Registrations (Romania)
This year’s International Market is offering free participation in market events. This includes speed networking. The market does offer online participation, but what this involves has not been announced.

6 May – National Library of Australia: Creative Arts Fellowships
Artists spend four weeks in residency and receive $10,000 to develop work inspired by the Library’s collections.

31 May – Brown’s Mart ENGAGE Applications (NT)
Offers artists free hire of the Brown’s Mart Theatre or Studio for one week with venue and marketing support for your show.

Contemporary Asian Australian Performance and Arts on Tour: Engage! Report
A report on engagement with diverse communities in the performance touring sector. Case studies are from across Australia.


VICTORIAN STUFF

3 April & 6 April – La Mama Connect
Sessions for artists to learn and connect. 3 April: Caitlin Dullard of La Mama and Selene Bateman of Auspicious Arts will share tips on how to budget, write grants, and fundraise. 6 April: Steven Richardson from Creative Australia will be offering Fundraising Fundamentals and advice to artists.

4 April – The Relationship is the Project: Working with Communities Conversation Series
With Claire G. Coleman, Jen Rae, Alex Kelly and Scotia Monkivitch, facilitated by Jade Lillie. Discussing climate justice, disaster readiness, recovery, and reworlding in our current climate.

5 April – Back to Back Theatre Open Workshops Registrations
Free open workshop in Melbourne and Geelong for intellectually disabled artists who might be interested in joining Back to Back’s ensemble. Artists can experience the company’s theatre-making process.

20–21 April – Lucy Guerin Inc’s Out of Bounds
Victorian dance artists present their recent choreographic investigations. Fellow artists can participate in discussion and creative feedback.

1 May–25 June – Disrupting Sighted Ableism: Call to Action
A free series of panels and workshops on disrupting sighted ableism. Panel discussion on the current status of blind and low vision accessibility in the arts on 1 May. Audio Description for Performance Workshop on 11 May. Panel on The Working Artist Re-defining Access on 25 June.


ASSITEJ STUFF Youth Arts & Young Audiences

5 April – ILBIJERRI Ensemble Applications (VIC)
For Victorian based Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people aged 18–26. A program to expand performance and theatre-making skills over the next six months.

29 April – ATYP’s The National StudioOne-week residency in rural NSW for emerging playwrights aged 18–26. $1,500 scholarship subsidy, travel, and accommodation provided. Writers are mentored by playwrights and dramaturgs.

25–28 April – Adelaide Juggling Convention
Features workshops, games and shows. Access to the 4 days is $160.

Women’s Circus Open Training  
Women’s Circus is offering free open training for current training members and circus professionals. Participants can share skills and work on their own practice in a shared space. There are open training sessions throughout April.
