The CaPT Independent Producers Initiative (CIPI) Wrap Up
CIPI has come to its end. It’s been an amazing 18 months of programs. CIPI supports Circus and Physical Theatre (CaPT) independent producers, who work with artists in and from Victoria. Through CIPI, we’ve also held gatherings, webinars, workshops, and mentoring sessions.

NATIONAL STUFF
19 June – Creative Australia’s Arts Scoping Study Workforce Survey
We encourage as many orgs as possible to complete Creative Australia‘s Arts Scoping Study Workforce Survey. The study is an action in Revive, the National Cultural Policy, and will inform Services and Creative Skills Australia first Workforce Plan.
10 June – Helpmann Academy Creative Development Grants (SA)
Emerging artists can get up to $3,000. They must be graduates or final year students at SA universities. The grant will help them to create new work or develop their creative practice.
10 June – ING Good Finds Social Enterprise Grant
Gives $10,000–$25,000 to an Australian social enterprise. They must show that it will grow or improve their business operations.
11 June – Brand X Performing Arts Creative Development Residency
Up to 2 weeks of rehearsal studio time at the City of Sydney Creative Studios, and $1,200 stipend per week per project.
12 June – MILKE Online Masterclasses and Monthly Check Ins
For independent producers. The free mini masterclass is on 12 June. The monthly check in for June has passed but fill in an EOI to take part in upcoming ones.
14 June – Tasmanian Export Awards (TAS)
Includes a category for outstanding success in any creative industry. The winner receives a grant of up to $10,000 to attend an international trade show or event.
14 June – APAX Travel Bursaries EOIs
The Australian Performing Arts Exchange (APAX) is in Melbourne from August 19-23. Artists, producers, and presenters from NT, QLD, SA, TAS, and WA can apply for a travel bursary. Bursaries provide financial support for travel costs.
14 June – Sprung Seeks New Ensemble Members (NSW)
EOIs open for aspiring disabled and/or d/Deaf artists to join a professional dance ensemble.
17 June – PAC Australia’s Tour Producer Training
Six-week long program for producers, artists, and companies. Develop national tour development skills. Online, except for an in-person intensive at APAX. Cost: $330.
18 June – CACWA’s Balancing the Scales: Addressing Gendered Financial Inequality in the Arts (WA)
The Chamber of Arts and Culture WA (CACWA) is holding a series of sessions in one day. They will address the unequal financial treatment of genders in the arts. $165 for non-members.
21 June – National Theatre of Parramatta Open Table EOIs (NSW)
For Western Sydney writers, directors, and theatre-makers. Begin a conversation with producers at the National Theatre of Parramatta.
24 June – National Library of Australia Scholarships
$6,000 to support a six-week residency at the National Library of Australia in Canberra. For PhD students to access the Library’s collections to assist in their research.
25 June – Arts Access Victoria June Gathering
Register for the monthly online forum for Deaf and Disabled artists and industry guests.
1 July – SA Government Community and Touring Grants (SA)
The Community Grant offers $40,000 for a community project. The project must support collaboration between artists and communities. The Touring Support grant offers funded orgs up to $50,000, for costs associated with touring.
14 July – Carclew Fellowships 2025
Up to $10,000 for artists and art workers aged 26 years or under. The grant can go towards research, mentoring, arts career building, and skills development.
15 July – Pride Foundation Small Grants
Offers $1,000 for projects that assist, involve and benefit LGBTQIA+ people.
19 July – Early Bird APAX Registrations
Tiered registrations to take part in this national arts market and conference. Early bird prices start from $350 for indie members, and $575 for orgs. The gathering is in Melbourne.
20–21 July – Free Artist Events at Darwin Fringe (NT)
On 20 July: an Arts NT information session and advice on grants. On 21 July: Artist Info Session on Fringe Festivals, and Artist Networking.
31 July – Arts Activities Funding (ACT)
Up to $50,000 for Canberra artists, groups and organisations. Arts activities include creating new work, professional development, residencies, and community arts and cultural development.
6 August – Creative Australia Peer Assessor EOIs
Join Creative Australia’s pool of peer assessors for a three-year term. Peer assessors make funding recommendations, assess grants, and provide expertise.
Workforce Australia Centrelink Mutual Obligations Factsheet
Are you a part-timer or freelancer on Centrelink income support payments? You can count unpaid arts-related work toward mutual obligations. For example: grant applications, auditions, emailing venues, volunteering for an arts org. Read the full fact sheet.
Edinburgh Fringe 2024 Industry Accreditation
Edinburgh Fringe is on 2–26 August. Edinburgh Fringe’s Industry Office is open to industry professionals interested in connecting with new talent at the festival. Accrediting is free and provides access to services and advice.
Support Act Mental Health and Wellbeing 2024 Survey
The survey will provide an updated picture of the mental health and wellbeing of people working in music and the creative industries.
Colour Contrast for Digital Accessibility
According to the Accessible Communications Collective, one of the most common accessibility failures is text with low colour contrast. There are two free online colour contrast checkers that will help with this. Image Colour Picker identifies the HEX code of a colour. WebAIM Contrast Checker compares the HEX codes and produces the contrast ratio.
Arts House ‘Reflecting on Year 1 of our DIAP’
Last year, Arts House launched their second Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). The plan aims to embed access in the org. They have published a reflection on their plan so far.
VICTORIAN STUFF
11 June – MILKE Producer Mentoring Program & Workshops
12-month mentorship program for Victorian independent producers. Participants enter the program with a specific theatre project they want to develop and produce. Mentees receive $4,000 towards their producing fees. There are also in-person producer workshops on 26 June. Cost: $66.
19 June – LGI HOTBED: Teaching Accessible Dance w/ Caroline Bowditch
Free workshop. For teachers or anyone interested in teaching accessible dance.
21 June – Melbourne Fringe 2024 Registrations
For artists to present at this year’s Fringe. There are multiple tiers of registration. They start at $95 for free events, $315 for a single ticketed event, and $430 for two or more shows.
21 June – Melbourne Awards
Recognising people, projects and initiatives that impacts the city. Categories include Community, Access and Inclusion, and Arts and Events.
21 June – WorkSafe Awards 2024 Nominations
Recognising excellence in Victorian workplace health and safety. You can nominate yourself or someone else.
23 June – City of Melbourne Arts Grants and Residencies
For individuals, groups, or small to medium arts orgs. Grants offer $20,000 for one-off arts projects that result in a public outcome. Residencies provide studio space and $5,000 to develop your creative practice.
1 July – Women of Colour Executive Leadership Program
In-person modules and coaching program for a woman of colour in VIC. She must hold a mid-to-senior level management position in her organisation.
19 July – The Regional Tourism Investment Fund 2024
For infrastructure projects in regional and rural Victoria that will increase year-round visitation. Includes arts and culture projects. Funding of $100,000 to $5 million.
Opportunities at Gasworks
Aspiring comedians can take part in Indie Comedy Nights. At the Gasworks’ Studio Theatre from August–September 2024. Gasworks is also offering the Garden Studio as a rehearsal and workshop space.

ASSITEJ STUFF – Youth Arts & Young Audiences
ASSITEJ World Congress
Sue Giles, TNA board member and President of ASSITEJ International, has been re-elected as President for another three years at the World Congress in Cuba. 488 international delegates were in attendance. Read Sue’s bulletin report on the Congress.
6 June – Next Level Fellowships for Young Regional Artists and Arts Workers (WA)
$8,000 to support creative activity and professional development. For artists, arts workers and groups from regional WA, aged between 18–26.
23 June – Monthly MYTH Meet Up (VIC)
For young people to explore mythology and to invent their own myths. Loukia Vassiliades (ArtPlay Victoria and St Martins Youth Arts Centre) will lead the meet up.
24 June – Bank of Melbourne Thrive Community Grants
Up to $50,000 grants to support the social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people. Activities must help young people to connect and take part in community life. Orgs must have DGR-1 status and be registered with ACNC.
Shopfront Scratch Night 2024 EOIs (NSW)
For artists to present and test work to a live audience in June, August, or December. Presentation slots are a maximum of 15 minutes long.
ASSITEJ International Leadership Demographics Research
The project wants to provide a snapshot of Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) leadership demographics. For the project, TYA is defined as works with/for/by young people aged 0-18 years. Australia is one of the countries the research is interested in.
CIRCUS AND PHYSICAL THEATRE (CAPT) STUFF
24 June – APAX CaPT Bursaries (VIC)
For Victorian circus and physical theatre artists and producers. Open to indies and small-to-medium sector. The bursary covers registration to attend the Australian Performing Arts Exchange in Melbourne. It also covers any travel and access costs.
16 July – DIVE In-Depth Training Registrations (Ireland)
A four-day international exploration on the role of outdoor arts in shaping society. August 1– 5, organised by Circostrada, ISACS and Spraoi International Street Arts Festival.
Circus Rigging High Risk Work Licenses
The Victorian Government has an initiative called “Skills First”. It currently funds free and cheap courses. This includes High-Risk Work Licenses required for Circus and Physical Theatre Rigging. Christian, our program producer, has written info sheets on this.
Australian Partner Acrobatic Convention (APAC) and Spinfest 2025
Dates have been announced. APAC Pre-Convention: 3–9 Jan. APAC: 10–15 Jan. Spinfest: 16–20 Jan. More details are coming soon.

- The Albanese Labor Government has announced the appointment of Simon Abrahams as a member of the Creative Workplaces Council for a four-year term.
- Performing Lines and La Boite will be joining the National Performing Arts Partnership Framework (NPAPF) from 2025.
- Joshua Pether has been appointed as the new CEO at Arts Access Victoria.
- Creative Australia has appointed PAC Australia to deliver the Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) for 2025–2030.
- The Sidney Myer Creative Fellows have been announced. Recipients include: Freyja Wild, Melanie Lane, Adena Jacobs, Matthias Schack-Arnott, S. Shakthidharan
- and John Harvey.
- Patrick McCarthy is stepping down as Executive Director at Victorian Association of Performing Arts Centres (VAPAC). Melenie Stevenson will step into the role of Interim Executive Director from June 17, taking on additional responsibilities in her role as Industry Development Manager.
- The Sydney Opera House has appointed Brenna Hobson as its next Director of Programming, starting in June.
- Patch Theatre has appointed two new staff members: Damon Delaney as Program Coordinator and Belinda Hellyer as Development Consultant.
- Zoe Morgan is stepping down as Operations Manager at DirtyFeet.
- Alon Ilsar and Zela Papageorgiou are the 2024 Associate Artists for Speak Percussion.
